| President's Message |
| Hello from Robin Shaffer, current
president of KCDHS. We are excited to be accessible
to the public through this website, and we thank CDHA
for making it possible.
Kern County is a relatively small local component but
we have BIG ideas to improve access to dental services
in our community. We have volunteered in Kern County
in several school programs, and as a result of our volunteerism,
we were given portable dental equipment to further our
preventive outreach to children.
We are currently in the process of teaming up with
the local Dental Society to form a non-profit organization
through which we can apply for grants and fund dental
services to the underserved in Kern County. We have
a wealth of talent to draw from, with students from
Taft Dental Hygiene School, to a rapidly growing number
of Registered Dental Hygienists in Alternative Practice,
to Dentists and Hygienists and School Nurses who are
willing to join in the development of dental outreach
programs.
In the future Kern County's "Call to Action"
will be a model program for other counties with large
underserved populations. |
