| We Are KEY to Advancing
Dental Hygiene
Allow me to introduce myself as SCVDHA President. My
name is Karen Thur and I love being a dental hygienist.
I have been in the dental field since 1986 and after
many years as a registered dental assistant, I decided
to become a dental hygienist. I graduated from the dental
hygiene program at Foothill College in June 2004.
I believe that we, as dental hygienists, are KEY to
advancing dental hygiene.
Educating the community on oral health is exciting
for me. Our component has established an oral health
segment into the library story hour programs at the
Santa Teresa, Saratoga, Campbell, Morgan Hill, Vineland,
Tully Community and the Milpitas Libraries. We look
forward to another exciting year with these libraries
and others as well. Another community dental health
event that our component has maintained is the Children's
Dental Health Fair at the Children’s
Discovery Museum in San Jose. We have educated hundreds
of children and parents on oral health. My hopes are
to increase our components involvement in future community
outreach programs and events.
I feel that we are all KEY to advance dental hygiene
in our own way. Like keys that come in many different
shapes and cuts, we are all made differently from each
and we will be different instruments or deciding factors
on how we advance dental hygiene. Thus, we can encourage
a colleague to join ADHA, we can attend CE courses to
enhance our knowledge and skills, and we can volunteer
at community events. It is our profession and we are
KEY to advancing dental hygiene.
