My name is Sue Treleaven and I am the SCVDHA President for the 2009-2010 year. Our profession is experiencing some exciting, yet daunting times today. There have never been more opportunities for dental hygienists, yet we still face many obstacles as we continue to seek new heights for our profession. Health care has never been so vehemently argued and sought after than it is today, with the need for disease prevention at the forefront. Yet in our current economic times, employment and full utilization of dental hygienists and our education is becoming an issue in Santa Clara Valley .
SCVDHA has a wide range of CE courses planned for the year: from Update in Infectious Diseases to the Utilization of Internet Technologies for the Dental Professional. We are currently involved in a variety of community projects including the “Taking Control of your Diabetes” Health Fair at Santa Clara Convention Center , the Children’s Health Fair at the Discovery Museum , the RotaCare clinic in Mountain View and the Santa Clara County Library Story Hours. All of these programs require small time commitments, yet offer vast rewards for volunteerism. If you are interested in participating, please contact our Community Dental Health Board Members for more information. New activities for the coming year include the creation of a Facebook page, informal study clubs, and social networking evenings. As always, we support and continue to mentor the dental hygiene programs in our area, Foothill and Western Career College . It is through the dental hygiene students and new graduates that our greatest resource and future lies.
SCVDHA exists for our members. We are your primary resource for continuing education , opportunities for community outreach, networking and camaraderie. Staying in touch with your professional organization ensures you the best opportunities to stay connected and maintain the highest level of professionalism. I would like to thank all of our long standing members for their continuous support of SCVDHA. Membership is essential for the sustainability of our association. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining. If you have colleagues who don’t yet belong, please invite them to come to one of our programs.
Please visit the website often to see events, CE’s and community volunteer opportunities in our area.
I am grateful for the support of our board members. They are to be commended for their long hours of commitment and enthusiasm for our profession. Please feel free to contact me at any time this year. I, along with the SCVDHA Board, want to meet the needs of all of our members over the coming year.
Yours professionally,
Sue Treleaven, RDH, BS
