| President's Message |
| It’s hard to believe that October
is here with Halloween and Thanksgiving fast approaching.
I hope our hot summer weather will be replaced by cooler
breezes of fall.
With October comes the Sugarless Shack that this year will
be held in the city of Redlands at Market Night
on October 25th. (Take the 10 Freeway to the
Orange Street exit and go south) We will be setting
up at 5 o’clock , and hope you can all join us,
for fun, good food, often live music, and a chance to
connect with some of our students and give our oral
health care message to the community.
As you may know already aside from being a clinical
hygienist I am now primarily an educator at LLUSD. I
believe an educator’s goal is to encourage the
students to honor their own idealism, their hunger for
a life superior to the one they see around them, to
have the courage to listen to their own deepest longings
and highest aspirations. It seems to me that one of
the greatest challenges of life is the challenge to
remain vulnerable; to remain open, receptive, and feeling.
Not to retreat with our bruises into a shell, but to
remain responsive to life and to the possibilities of
joy. Come and experience some joy on Market Night this
month with us. Our students from our three schools here
in Tri County have a special place in my heart they
are “our tomorrows” and we are their lights
shinning ahead down the path of their professional lives
giving them our history and showing them the possibilities
for their futures. We look forward to seeing students
from SJVC, RCC, and
LLUSD that night. If you can come,
be sure to mix and mingle with them to encourage them
in their classes and boards, and towards becoming active
members of our association when they get their license.
Exciting changes are afoot in our profession. And our
students need us as they prepare and begin their journey
to have a firm balanced foundation their feet firmly
grounded and yet be able to soar to success...to heights
we have only dreamed of. Come join your Tri County Board
and our students as we reach out to the community with
our messages of oral and physical health and positively
represent our profession.
Hope to see many of you soon!
Your TCDHS President,
Darlene Cheek, RDH, BS
