Daphne

Presidentt
Daphne Von Essen, RDH

 

 

Daphne Von Essen graduated from West Los Angeles College in June 1992, and has been active in ADHA, CDHA, and the Santa Barbara Dental Hygienists’ Association.  She has held numerous positions including, Component President, liaison to DART a  local dental public health program in addition to appearing as the  tooth fairy at numerous local outreach and children’s events. As a member of CDHA, she has served as Trustee, in addition to serving as chair of the Membership and Public Relations Councils. A member of Sigma Phi Alpha, the dental hygiene honor society, Daphne is a clinical hygienist in private practice and always on the cutting edge with product information, digital radiography, and laser technology.

An active member of All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church and a team leader of the Alter Guild, she has raised three wonderful children, Summer, Brook, and James. When not involved with dental hygiene, Daphne can be found swimming laps at the YMCA, painting watercolors, or walking her dogs.

     
     
Ellen Standley

Ellen Standley graduated from the University of California’s dental hygiene program with a Bachelor of Science degree.  After 8 years in private practice she returned to school to earn a Master’s degree in Education from The University of San Francisco.  Ellen is currently a faculty member at Sacramento City College where she has taught for the past 30 years.  As a member of ADHA, CDHA and the Sacramento Valley Dental Hygienist’s Association she has served in a variety of leadership roles and expanded her network of colleagues and friends in the process.  Ellen is passionate about dental hygiene and believes that membership in the association has never been more important than in today’s challenging times. 

Ellen resides in Sacramento with her husband of 31 years, Dick.  They have 2 sons, Robert and James; a daughter-in-law Christina and a very cute granddaughter Alexandra.  When not involved in dental hygiene Ellen enjoys swimming, reading and traveling .  Her vices include the 5 C’s:  cookies, crackers, chips, cheese and chocolate.

Lygia Jolley, RDH, BA

 

 

Lygia Jolley has been a registered dental hygienist since 1986.  She graduated from Fresno City College in 1986 then returned to school in 2003 to earn a Bachelors Degree.  She graduated from Fresno Pacific University in 2004, with a degree in Management and Organizational Development.  Lygia is a mother of 3 children Joseph 16, Beth 15, Benjamin 13.  She has been married to a wonderful man Kirk for seventeen years.   Lygia resides in Hanford, California.  She enjoys playing the piano and organ, reading, and is involved in her son’s Boy Scouts troop.

Carole Broder graduated from the University of Southern California's dental hygiene program with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987. Carole has been active in the South Bay Dental Hygienists' Society, CDHA and ADHA ever since she graduated. As a member of her local component, she has filled many roles including President and Trustee. As a member of CDHA, she has represented her local component as Trustee, and been a member of the Public Relations and the Student Relations Councils. Carole has also represented CDHA as an ADHA Delegate. When not in clinical practice, Carole can be found teaching CPR, teaching ice skating to adults and 2-3 year olds, volunteering with Support Services in the Los Angeles Fire Department, working with the Auxiliary Communications Service or CERT, reading ,working out, and helping at her family's underwater photography store. Carole loves spending time with family and especially the time she gets to spend with her nephews and niece.

Lisa Okamoto, RDH
 

 

A native born San Franciscan, Lisa Okamoto received an Associate of Science degree from City College of SF, majoring in math. Recognizing a desire to work more closely with people in a health-related field, Lisa earned her Certificate of Dental Hygiene and graduated with honors with an Associate of Science degree from Foothill College, Los Altos Hills, in 1980. Since that time, Lisa has practiced as a clinical dental hygienist in both general and periodontal practices. In 2000, she became an adjunct clinical instructor for the Dental Hygiene Department at Foothill College. A proud member of ADHA throughout her dental hygiene career, Lisa has been active in her local component, Peninsula, as well as at the state level serving in various offices. With family and friends, Lisa and her husband Bob enjoy downhill skiing, golf and traveling. Lisa is an avid reader, enjoys cooking and confesses to being a bonafide chocoholic.

Noel Kelsch

 

 

Noel graduated from Cabrillo College in 1992. She has been involved in CDHA since graduation and has served in a variety of roles, from ADHA delegate to President. She is a speaker, writer, cartoonist and Registered Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice. Passionate about oral health, Noel has the uncanny ability to motivate and enlighten through her unique humor and cutting edge information.  She takes tough subject matter and presents it in such an interesting way that it becomes thought provoking even to those not involved in her industry.  She is the Infection Control Columnist for RDH magazine, a syndicated newspaper columnist, has been published in many books and has been instrumental in developing the Simi Valley Free Clinic. Noel has received many national awards, including Colgate Bright Smiles Bright Futures, RDH Magazine Sun Star Butler Award of Distinction, USA magazine Make a Difference Day award, Presidents Service award, Foster Parent of the Year, Hu-Friedy Master Clinician Award. As if that were not enough, she is also a five time winner of the Castroville Artichoke cook off! Noel is the Immediate Past President of the California Dental Hygienists Association, Board member of Simi Valley Free Clinic, Sunstar America, GC America, Philip Life Style and Kerr Total Care, Key Organization Leader, member of Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures and the Speakers and Consultants Network. Her research on methamphetamine abuse and oral care and end of life patients and comfort care are making a difference in many lives. In her rare spare time, she indulges in some of her favorite hobbies, which include underwater basket weaving, navel contemplation and watercolors. She has four children, Serena, Brice, Ma’rhya, and David. She resides in Moorpark California with her husband of 31 years Dave.
